Rollie Stoneman
Executive Assistant to the Director of College Pathways at The Classical Academy
Rollie is the Executive Assistant to the Director of College Pathways at The Classical Academy in Colorado Springs. College Pathways is an innovative, hybrid online education partnership between The Classical Academy and Pikes Peak Community College. Through College Pathways, students can satisfy their high school graduation requirements and earn an Associates Degree at the same time – all at no tuition cost to them. Prior to his current position, Rollie served 23 years as an Air Force officer and 13 years as a DOD civilian.
He began his Air Force career in SAC as a Missile Launch Officer in the Minuteman system at F.E. Warren AFB, WY. As a 2Lt in 1972, Rollie set off to win the Cold War with little more than a long fuse and a match. A highlight of that assignment was forming The Groobers, a musical quartet whose satirical arrangements received a great deal of notoriety within SAC and particularly among missileers. The group was politically incorrect before the term political correctness was coined. Subsequent to a stint at the Air Force Academy’s Registrar’s office, he returned to Missile Operations Training at Vandenberg AFB. In 1987, a cancelled assignment within SAC brought him to Air Force Space Command and the brand new1013th Combat Crew Training Squadron. Rollie served as the first Chief of Standardization/Evaluation and the first Director of Training Support in standing up the 1013th and developing the first formal crew training program for Space Operations.
In 1989, Rollie moved back to the Air Force Academy to serve as Associate Director of Admissions until retiring in 1993. After an unsuccessful attempt at retirement, he returned two years later to the Academy Admissions Office as Senior Associate Director of Admissions, a position he held as a DOD civilian until retiring again in December, 2008. Following a second failed retirement, Rollie assumed his current position in April, 2009. He is married to Diane and they have two children and four grandchildren.
