"Despite attending USAF TAPs and Army ACAP....I thought I was ready to begin my transition to civilian employment. After attending MAPS for true measure I realized I didnt quite grasp what my North Star was...my passion. Homeland Security Careers and Kimberly Hessler helped me with my own self discovery and allowed me to better apply what I knew from TAPS & ACAP. Furthermore, Kimberly's HSC weekly meeting Hubs provide an unequaled forum to network with other career transitioning professionals. I have talked to many of my peers in other cities in the same transition... everyone wishes they had HSC and MAPs! Thank you to Kimberly and Caroline at Homeland Security Careers." - Michael P Donovan

Employed through HSC

After transitioning from the AF after 27 years I moved to Colorado from Illinois cold turkey, not having ever lived here before. My wife and I knew we just wanted to settle here. I spent a month submitting applications on-line and not having any success. Then I saw Kimberly's MAP course being offered at Peterson AFB and thought it might help. Man, did it ever. I learned what my North Star was and how to seek my job passion. This led to me attending the HSC hubs and I learned to volunteer to network. I learned to "gentle stalk" to network and make contact with people in a position to recommend you for a position (I got two interviews using this technique). The encouragement and support was beyond belief and it helped me through the low points when I felt it was getting hopeless. I made friendships, had comrades in arms and they all led to a job opportunity that I am sure I would have missed out on on my own.
Thanks Kimberly and Caroline for everything. - Edward 'Basil" Howard
